About The Dachshund Dash
Oklahoma Gazette is proud to announce its fourth annual Dachshund Dash will take place Sunday, May 18, 2008 inside the State Fair Park’s Cox Pavilion.
Oklahoma Gazette’s Dachshund Dash is a just-for-fun dog racing event that raises money for animal welfare and adoption centers in Central Oklahoma. Each year we have a different beneficiary. This year, our goal is to raise at least $7,000 for Oklahoma City’s Best Friends of Shelter Pets.
The past three years’ events have been phenomenally successful, bringing in thousands of onlookers from all across the state and region and raising thousands of dollars for charity.
Admission is $1.00, and kids 12 and under are free. Spectators may place $2 wagers on the Dachshunds that are racing. If they choose a first or second place dog, they win prizes like t-shirts and bandanas. The proceeds of the wagers are donated to the event beneficiary.
This year, we will be racing 64 dogs selected by lottery from the entry forms we receive. Entry forms will publish in the Gazette on March 19, March 26, April 2 and April 9, and the drawing will take place April 16 at 7pm at VZD’s Restaurant & Club in Oklahoma City. On the day of the event, we will have a total of eleven races beginning at 1pm. The winners of individual races will move on to the next bracket until a champion is determined!
Registration Begins March 19, 2008. Forms can be found here or in each issue of Oklahoma Gazette through April 9. Registration Fee: $20 per dog
